Voters overwhelmingly approved the East Meadow Public Library’s proposed 2015-16 budget on May 21. Of 5,268 votes cast, 3,983 — or 75 percent — voted ‘yes’ to the $7.2 million spending plan, a 2.28 percent increase from this year’s budget.

The amount of money to be raised by taxes will total $6.9 million, a 2.39 percent year-to-year increase. Since the proposal was under the state mandated tax levy cap, it only required a simple majority for approval.

Ellen Matishek, a six-year library trustee who ran for re-election unopposed, earned another five-year term.
