A Hempstead man was arrested last week for his involvement in what police say was a string of multiple larcenies from vending machines throughout numerous locations in Nassau County, including in Eisenhower Park.

Cesar Cruz, 56, was arrested at 12:30 a.m. on July 10, after police stopped him while he was riding a bike on Oak Street in Uniondale, according to Nassau County police. A vending machine in Eisenhower Park had just been damaged and robbed one hour and 15 minutes earlier, police say, and after investigating Cruz, they determined that he was in possession of the cash and coins that were removed. He was placed under arrest without incident.

Police say they were able to close other cases where Cruz was responsible for damaging and removing cash, in excess of $3,000, from area vending machines.

Cruz is charged with six counts of third-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny, nine counts of third-degree criminal mischief, petit larceny and possession of burglary tools. His arraignment was scheduled for July 10.
