The Nassau University Medical Center unveiled a new intensive care unit on Feb. 26, which houses a coronary care unit for cardiac and heart attack patients, a surgical intensive care unit and a medical intensive care unit for patients to receive the most up to date technology in a private setting, said hospital spokeswoman Shelley Lotenberg.

The renovations, which cost just under $4 million, said Lotenberg, include 33 bed units; seven of which are infection control isolation rooms.

The ICUs also feature large, private rooms with a “modern décor, including soothing earth tones and a computerized video system,” Lotenberg said, which allows nurses and staff to better monitor patients. The computers at each bedside will enhance electronic documentation, she said.
