East Meadow High School’s Ayyan Zubair and W.T. Clarke High School’s Pavithran Ravindran have been named two of 16,000 semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

Approximately 1.4 million students entered the competition by taking the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship qualifying test. Students are ranked with a selection index score based on their combined scores in math, critical reading and writing. Zubair and Ravindran will continue to compete to receive the prestigious National Merit Scholarship, as well as college and corporate-sponsored scholarships.

In order to become finalists, they must fulfill a number of requirements: maintain their stellar academic records, receive recommendations from a high school official, and achieve SAT scores commensurate with their PSAT performances.
