Pancakes with Catwoman

'Gotham' actress stops by East Meadow Kiwanis pancake breakfast

East Meadow Kiwanis’s annual pancake breakfast filled the East Meadow High School cafeteria on Sunday, thanks in a large part to a celebrity guest appearance — Camren Bicondova, a 15-year-old actress who plays the young Selina Kyle, or Catwoman, on the Fox television show “Gotham.”

About 250 tickets were sold for the all-you-can-eat affair, which raises money for Kiwanis scholarships and other programs for underprivileged children in the community. Hundreds enjoyed an endless platter of pancakes, eggs, sausage and orange juice.

Club president Kevin Kamper said the original plan was to station Bicondova in a separate room to sign autographs and take pictures, but said Bicondova insisted on being in the cafeteria with the crowd. “She wanted to be with every one else,” Kamper said, “It was great. The kids really loved it.”

Bicondova was recently nominated for a Saturn Award — which honors science fiction, fantasy and horror in film and television — for Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Television Series.

At the event’s end, Kiwanis members promptly commended Bicondova by declaring her an honorary member of the East Meadow High School Key Club.
