Pokémon takes over the East Meadow library

It was a celebration of Pokémon at the East Meadow Public Library on Feb. 20, as residents had fun with video games and art involving the popular fictional anime universe.

It was the second annual event, according to organizer Kelly Gordon, who said it was expanded to include a head-to-head video game tournament, an artist alley and a “Guess the Pokemon” game, mimicking a popular segment from the television show.

The head-to-head tournament had two dozen participants, said Gordon, and was played on Nintendo 3DS. Nicholas Simonelli, of East Meadow, was the champion.

Participants also got to showcase their own artwork at the event, Gordon said.

“It’s bringing in the whole anime culture into the library,” said Gordon, who is also the library’s art director. “It celebrates the arts as well. People have to design these characters and make the video games.”

From May 16 to 18, the library will host its fifth EMCon, an event that celebrates the anime culture.
