Rain doesn't dampen Shabbat Under the Stars

Hundreds joined together at Temple Emanu-El on Aug. 9 for the synagogue’s annual Shabbat Under the Stars event.

The outdoor family event normally comprises a barbecue followed by a Shabbat service on the synagogue’s lawn, but rain forced the proceedings to take place indoors.

But the inclement weather did not dampen the spirits of the congregants, who decorated the synagogue to look like an outdoor sky at night.

Rabbi Daniel Bar-Nahum and Cantor Ellen Weinberg led the service, and Hebrew School teacher David Berkowitz entertained the audience with his guitar. “It’s much more lively and spiritual than a typical Shabbat service,” said East Meadow resident Todd Weinstein, who attended the proceedings with his family.
