Reforming Albany topic of local forum

Posted

Two of Albany’s top leaders and most notorious recent convicted officials, Dean Skelos and Sheldon Silver, are about to be sentenced – probably to significant jail time. In this atmosphere of corruption, would raising salaries, while banning outside income, be a move towards a more effective representative democracy?

To discuss these, and other thought-provoking issues, join Common Cause New York, a nonpartisan group, for this free event on Thurs., April 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the American Legion Post 854, 51 Roosevelt Ave., Valley Stream.

Newsday political columnist Dan Janison, and Republican strategist, and partner at the November Team Jessica Proud, will debate about anti-corruption measures for New York.
