Roads to be closed for L.I. Marathon

Posted

Several local roadways will be closed this weekend for the Long Island Marathon, which is expected to attract thousands of athletes and spectators to the region.

For more than 40 years, Long Islanders and runners from across the country have traveled to central Nassau County to participate in Long Island Marathon and associated events. What started in the 1970’s as just marathon, the full program now includes a half marathon, 10K, 5K, 1 mile run, kids' fun run and a two-day sports and fitness expo.

All Long Island Marathon events take place in the area of Eisehower Park in East Meadow and the Mitchel Athletic Complex, located next door in Uniondale.

On Saturday, participants in the 1 mile and 5K races will start on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard and finish their races on the 1998 Goodwill Games world-record-setting track inside the Mitchel Athletic Complex.

The marathon, half marathon and 10K will be held on Sunday. These race routes start on Charles Lindbergh as well — behind Nassau Coliseum — and finish inside Eisenhower Park. The Finish Line Festival, featuring live music and refreshments, will also be held at the East Meadow park.

According to the Nassau County Police Department, the following roads will be closed on Saturday:
