Acclaimed pianist Jeffrey Biegel, of Lynbrook, returns as the featured soloist. The program includes Johannes Brahms Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major, featuring Biegel, as well as the composer’s Hungarian Dances No. 1, 3 & 10 and Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll. Concerto No. 2 is one of the most romantic and challenging pieces ever written for piano. An audience favorite, this is the first time the South Shore Symphony has had the opportunity to perform it.

Musical Americana

Accentuate the Arlen
Those beloved classic songs of Harold Arlen will have everyone humming along, at a concert honoring the master composer, presented by Hofstra University’s Gray Wig Alumni Theater Company. Some 50 singers, dancers and musicians perform selections from the more than 500 songs Arlen wrote over the years, which are synonymous with the great American Songbook. Hear “Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive,” “Get Happy,” “Stormy Weather,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,The Man That Got Away,” and, of course, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” Performers include Amanda Falls and Claire Levasseur, of Bellmore, and Merrick’s Olivia LaRocco and Nicole Fauci.
Saturday, April 13, 2 and 8 p.m.; Sunday, April 14, 2 p.m. $25, $20 seniors and students. Hofstra University’s John Cranford Adams Playhouse, South Campus, Hempstead. (516) 463-6644 or www.tickets.com (enter Arlen in search box).
