Famed dance troupe performs classics and recent masterworks this weekend

The vibrant six-member touring company, an adjunct of the esteemed Paul Taylor Dance Company, brings its athleticism, humor and virtuosity to the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center stage in two dynamic programs of classics and recent masterworks. Each of the two performances is unique and will feature three pieces from the Paul Taylor repertoire performed studio-style so as to focus on the choreography, and range of emotions typically found in the legendary choreographer’s work. The first performance, Feb. 13, includes Airs, The Uncommitted and Piazzolla Caldera; on Feb. 20, Dust, Fibers and Esplanade will be featured. It’s an evening that is sure to enthrall dance enthusiasts.

Swingtime Big Band
Get in the swing of things with your sweetie during Valentine’s Day weekend when the lively Swingtime Big Band returns to the Madison Theatre with “Our Love is Here to Stay.” Artistic Director Steve Shaiman leads his acclaimed 20-piece jazz ensemble in a concert of romantic favorites and standards, featuring classic love songs from the swing era and the Great American Song Book, along with a Sintra centennial tribute. Swingtime’s female vocalist Bobbie Ruth recreates the “gal vocal” stylings of such legendary singers as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, Eydie Gormé, Billie Holiday and Judy Garland, while vocalist Jerry Costanzo, brings to life the sound of Big Band crooners such as Nat “King” Cole, Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and, of course, the immortal Frank Sinatra.
