Temple Emanu-El celebrates Hanukkah

Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow hosted its annual Hanukkah Brunch last Sunday ahead of the holiday’s first night.

About 200 congregants united for an afternoon of games, crafts, music, raffles and food. Rabbi Daniel Bar-Nahum and Cantor Ellen Weinberg led the guests in the Hanukkah blessings and lighting of the menorah, before members chowed down on savory seasonal food.

In addition to bagels, lox, salads and spreads, there were latkes, or potatoes pancakes. The festivities served as a reminder of the great miracle of the single cruse of pure oil that burned for eight days.

In keeping with the spirit of the season, everyone who attended was asked to bring canned food and new toys to help families in need in the local community.
