April 5, 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of Karma Beauty Studio in Merrick. Nikki Cestaro and her dedicated staff will be celebrating with an open house for their clientele, family and friends.

Nikki started out 27 years ago as a shampoo girl in a salon in East Meadow. Over the years, she worked her way up to being a stylist. In 2006, with the help of her husband, Joey, she opened Karma Beauty Studio, which is now a successful salon … her pride and joy.

“My goal was to offer a comfortable environment for people to feel at home and be treated the way I would want to be treated,” said Nikki. “We see our clients as family and pay attention to their needs. They made the decision to come here, and we will never take that for granted.” The staff at Karma builds long-lasting relationships with customers. Much of their clientele has been coming to the salon since its opening. Nikki still works with her very first shampoo customer, and several ladies who started out as clients are now her employees.

Karma Beauty Studio, which is located in front of Carefree Racquet Club, is intimate and cozy. In addition to Nikki, there are two hair dressers, two nail technicians, two receptionists and three assistants. Some of the staff has been there since the salon opened. Working together as a family, they strive to offer a positive, loving and caring attitude. On a large mirror (and also tattooed on Joey) is a slogan they all work and live by. “The deeds and actions a person takes in the present will determine the path their life will take in the future.”

Nikki strongly believes in education and offers classes and workshops to her staff. They have learned at the Matrix Academy, took classes at the Arroyo Academy, and traveled to Baltimore and Florida for further education. Recently, Tocco Magico, their Italian organic color company, gave a class at Karma Beauty Studio on the latest color trends.

Karma stays informed of current styles and techniques for both hair and nails, and carries high quality, safe products. Names like Aquage, Biomega, Riki, Unite and Babyliss can be found among their styling products and instruments. They also offer hair extensions, and various types of keratin treatments.

Karma contributes to local schools and charities with different events, gift cards and free services. They have donated funds to the Lustgarten Foundation, Breast Cancer Awareness, and the American Heart Association, among other foundations. With the help of their generous clientele, they recently raised over $2,000 for a young client battling cancer.

Hours at Karma are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
