Two Elmont men arrested for attempted robbery

The Nassau County police have arrested two Elmont men for attempted robbery early Friday morning on Elmont Road and Hempstead Turnpike.

According to police, Jamal Washington, 24, and Terrence McBride, 18, of the same residence attempted to deal a PlayStation 3 console for a laptop at an apartment on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont. The 40-year-old male victim refused and ordered the two men to leave his home. As the victim was closing the door, the defendants became irate and forcibly pushed opened the door and re-entered the apartment.

Washington then threatened the victim with a 5 inch knife, while defendant McBride grabbed a metal golf club and proceeded to hit another male victim also inside the apartment on his legs. The defendants then tried unsuccessfully to grab the lap top computer and fled the scene. After a search of the area, Fifth Precinct Officers were able to arrest defendant Washington on Hempstead Turnpike and Elmont Road at 1:00 am. Defendant McBride was later arrested at 1:47 am in front of 535 Hempstead Turnpike. Both victims refused further medical assistance at the scene.

Washington and McBride are being charged with Burglary 1st Degree, two counts of Attempted Robbery, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree and Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th Degree.

They will be arraigned on Friday at First District Court, Hempstead.
