W.T. Clarke High School recently revived the ’50s greaser look with a musical performance of “Grease.” Above, Riley Walsh, Sean Kalinowski, Andrew Mavrogeorgis, Nick Smith and Alexander Cavanaugh slicked back their hair and flashed some leather..

Lately, students in the East Meadow School District have been putting on quite a show.

On March 1 and 2, W.T. Clarke High School students performed “Grease,” the classic 1972 musical, made famous six years later in a film adaptation starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. The play was met with extravagant praise by the community, according to local resident Maria Smith, who called the performance “magnificent.”

McVey Elementary students, meanwhile, put on a rousing performance of “Bye Bye Birdie” in February. The musical, whose story was inspired by Elvis Presley, was directed by math teacher Charles Angeli.

The score of familiar songs, including “Put on a Happy Face” and “Kids” thrilled audience members, and had them humming and singing along in their seats.
