East Meadow welcomes L.I.'s third Sonic Drive-In

Despite the rain and cloudy skies, local East Meadow community members and Town of Hempstead officials headed to the county’s newest Sonic Drive-In restaurant on Monday to welcome the eatery through a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

Owners Nancy and Spencer Hart cut the ribbon held by family, supporters and their new employees. The East Meadow location, at 1724 Hempstead Turnpike in the heart of the community, marks the Hart’s third Sonic Drive-In location. They first opened a restaurant in North Babylon in April 2011 and later opened Nassau County’s first Drive-In earlier this February in the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream.

“The reception we’ve received for our first two Long Island Sonic Drive-Ins has been terrific, and we’re hoping our East Meadow neighbors are as excited as we are for this upcoming opening,” Spencer said in a statement. “We welcome the East Meadow community to stop by and experience all that Sonic has to offer, including our unique menu, never-ending drink combinations and friendly Carhop service.”

At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Town of Hempstead officials presented the Harts with certificates of recognition. The East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, who helped organize the ribbon cutting, presented the restaurant with citations.
After the ceremony, Sonic Drive-In officially opened its doors to the community.
