Village of Valley Stream to hold public hearing to discuss development grant

The Village of Valley Stream will hold a public hearing on March 20 at 7 p.m. ahead of its regular meeting to discuss an application to Nassau County for community development funding.

The Community Development Block Grant is a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, federally funded program that provides funding to local municipalities for housing and community development. Approximately 80 percent of Nassau County’s funds are distributed to local municipalities to work on projects such as neighborhood revitalization projects and infrastructure improvements.

Communities that receive these funds must give the majority of the funding to projects that would benefit low or moderate-income residents or help eliminate blight.

According to Tom McAleer, the buildings superintendent for the village, this money is being sought to fund renovations of parking fields 1 and 1A on West Hawthorne Avenue.

The application must be submitted by April, and Nassau County will allocate the funds in September.
