It was more than Lynbrook High tennis player Cooper Schorr’s forehand or serve that caught the attention of the USTA. The sophomore student-athlete with a positive attitude and genuine joy for the sport was recognized by the USTA with an award for outstanding sportsmanship—demonstrating a high level of respect and compassion for fellow competitors and teammates. more
Four to five times a week, after classes end at Lynbrook South Middle School, Cooper Schorr, 12, heads to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens to take tennis lessons. He also hones his skills at weekly lessons at the Bethpage Park Tennis Center. more
On March 4 from 7 p.m. to midnight, the Progressive School of Long Island will host its 12th annual Sports Party Fundraiser at Sportime Lynbrook on Merrick Road. Adults and children can enjoy a night of tennis, basketball, hockey, lacrosse and dodge ball. Tennis professionals will be available for instruction and pizza will be provided.
