On Thursday, February 21, representatives from the American Legion Post No. 958 in East Rockaway presented checks to the officers of each company and squad of the East Rockaway Fire Department in grateful appreciation for the services provided during and following Superstorm Sandy. Each company received a check for $500 and each squad received $250.

“The individual companies and squads of the East Rockaway Fire Department are honored to receive these generous contributions from American Legion Post 958,” said Chief Steve Torborg. “ It is our sworn duty to protect and serve the residents of this fine community and we feel that our actions during and following Superstorm Sandy were merely part of the services we volunteered to provide. To receive such recognition from the true heroes of our community and our nation, our veterans, warms our hearts and drives us in our efforts.”
