Annual Community Concert for the Troops in Lynbrook

Fire Department to host fundraiser, events for wounded warriors

Posted

The Lynbrook Fire Department has announced that they will host two fundraisers in September to raise money to help our wounded warriors.

The first is a softball doubleheader between the firefighters and the Lynbrook Police in a Battle of the Badges, and a second game in which the firefighters will challenge a team from the Lynbrook Baptist Church. The doubleheader will be held on Saturday evening, Sept. 12. This will be followed one week later when the firefighters hold their fifth annual Concert for Wounded Warriors on Sat., Sept. 19.

The softball games will be played beginning at 6 p.m. on Sept. 12 at Greis Park on the field next to the Tally-Ho firehouse off Horton Avenue, while the concert will be held on Sept. 19 from 5 to 11 p.m. on Earle Avenue in front of Truck Company’s firehouse between Sunrise Highway and Merrick Road.

Money raised from both these events will be donated to Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior.

The LFD and the NCFF-OWW

The Lynbrook Fire Department has been active in NCFF-OWW for seven years. The firefighters will be raffling off many donated prizes on both evenings, and this year, the firefighters have more raffles and great prizes than ever before.

Some of the prizes that can be won include JetBlue Airline tickets, Southwest Airlines tickets, Billy Joel concert tickets, a Gurney’s Inn stay, vineyard trips on Long Island, TV show tickets, NYC tours, paintings, sports tickets, local restaurant dinners, and so many more.

Wounded US Marine Corporal Marcus Dandrea, who the Lynbrook Fire Department recently made an honorary Lynbrook firefighter, as featured in the Herald, will be traveling from Bethesda on the 19th to attend the concert. Other military active duty personnel have also been invited.

There is no charge to attend the softball games on Sept. 12, but donations will be accepted and raffles will be sold for a number of prizes that night.

For the concert on Sept. 19, there is a donation of $20 per person, with children under 16 free. There will also be a bounce house for the children, as well as free food, soda and water — and many more raffles and prizes.

“We would hope that our residents will come out and support our firefighter’s efforts to help make life just a little better for our wounded warriors,” said Lynbrook Fire Chief James McDermott. “The little we do can never replace what they have done for us.”

Any individual, company or organization needing more information, or those who wish to donate can call Ex-Chief Kevin Bien at (516) 993-6074.

The Nassau County Firefighters Operation Wounded Warrior is a local 501-C3 charity and is not affiliated with the national Wounded Warrior Project.
