Curran for Assembly in the 21st District

Posted

Republican Brian Curran is seeking re-election to a fourth term in the State Assembly’s 21st District. He is being challenged by Democrat Travis Bourgeois.

Curran is the ranking minority member of the Assembly’s Ethics and Guidance Committee, and a member of the Banks, Labor, Insurance and Veterans’ Affairs committees. He sponsored the Veterans’ Buy Back Bill, which Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law in June. It allows veterans who are municipal employees to “purchase” service time based on their military service. His office also organized the first-ever Run for Heroes, a 5K race that raised more than $30,000 for veterans’ housing in Lynbrook, Malverne, East Rockaway and Rockville Centre. Curran has fought for the district, and, along with other state legislators from Nassau County, obtained a record amount of school aid. He also helped pass one of the largest middle-class tax cuts in state history.

He keeps busy, as well, in his home community of Lynbrook. For the past eight years he has helped support the St. Baldrick’s Children’s Cancer Foundation, having his head shaved to raise funds for cancer research and the search for a cure. He has been a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and is a former member of the Lynbrook Fire Department and a coach of the Lynbrook Flag Football League.

Bourgeois has good intentions, but lacks the experience Curran brings to the seat. We encourage Bourgeois to remain involved in public affairs, but based on Curran’s record, we enthusiastically endorse him for another term.
