Two armed robberies occurred less than a week apart and just blocks from each other in East Rockaway.

According to detectives, a 56-year-old male victim was working at Card Corner at 93 Main St. on January 15, when, at 11:18 a.m., he was approached by a white man, 6’ tall with a slim build, wearing a blue sweater with a hood over his head, a white scarf over his face, dark pants and a blue and white baseball cap. Displaying a black handgun, he demanded money, and the victim complied. The suspect fled on foot southbound on Rhame Avenue with an undisclosed amount of cash. The victim was in the store alone at the time, and no injuries were reported. Nearby Rhame Avenue and Centre Avenue elementary schools in East Rockaway were on lock-out for an hour that morning as police searched for the robber. No injuries were reported.

This Monday, 4th squad detectives reported that a 45-year-old male victim was approached by two men while working at Paul’s Dry Cleaner, 432 Atlantic Avenue at approximately 5:48 p.m. One of the suspects, described as 6 feet tall, weighing 180 pounds and wearing a black hooded bubble jacket, blue jeans, black sneakers and a white bandana covering his face displayed a small black revolver and demanded the victim open the cash register.  The victim complied and the second suspect, 5’ 9” tall, 190 pounds, wearing a black hooded bubble jacket, blue jeans, black sneakers and a white bandana covering his face removed an undisclosed amount of cash.  The suspects fled on foot northbound on Atlantic Avenue.  There were three employees and no customers in the store at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.
