East Rockaway Raiders take the big field

10-year-olds scrimmage at N.Y. Jet’s MetLife Stadium

On Sunday, Sept. 28, the 10-year-olds of the East Rockaway Raiders football team took the field at MetLife Stadium in New Rutherford, N.J. to have a scrimmage with the Seaford Broncos after the New York Jets played the Detroit Lions.

With five buses filled with 250 friends and family members along for the ride, the Lynbrook/East Rockaway community was well represented as the players lined up outside the tunnel as the Jets players took the field.

“I could not be happier for these kids,” said Head Coach Justin Hickam. “Today was an example of the Raider family stepping up — and it’s bigger than football. “This will be something that they remember for the rest of their lives!”

“I’d like to give special thanks to all who made this memorable day possible,” Hickam added, “including Independent Coach for providing the buses, and all of the parents who sold tickets to the game, and who made the day a huge success for the kids.”

The East Rockaway Raiders The Board of Directors includes Chris Paris, Brian Rogers, Robert Greco, Justin Hickam and Craig Hickam.

Raider Day Sunday will be held on Oct. 26. All five of the Raider teams, ages six through 11, will be playing at home in Bay Park. Come out to support the community as the boys wind down the 44th season of East Rockaway Raider football.

Team members are Anthony Balber, Brian Cooney, Mark DiLapi, Matthew Duch, Nicholas Ebel, Tyler Gutierrez, Jack Hickam, Tyler Ippolito, Stanley Jimenez, Michael Kilgus, Harrison Kirby, George Larosa, Christian Meszaros, Matthew O’Hagan, Michael O’Hagan, Nicholas Quagliozzi, Timothy Shaw and Hayden Walsh.
