Kuhner, whose children have participated in the library’s summer reading program, Tot-Time, Book Buddies and other programs geared toward young readers, said that they borrowed books from the temporary location and enjoyed seeing the staff getting post-Sandy updates on the library repairs.

“We are reassured to have our library reopened and fully functional,” Kuhner said. “The children were excited to check out the new iPad technology and to check out books to enjoy at home — and they enjoyed meeting Curious George!”

“As our village rebuilds and recovers from Sandy, it’s wonderful that the East Rockaway Public Library has reopened,” said Mayor Francis T. Lenahan. “The immense work that the village board, the library board, our librarians, village departments and community members undertook to restore this center of learning and knowledge after Sandy’s flooding and damage only underscores our commitment to the entire East Rockaway community.”
