A group of East Rockaway High School alumni have planned a “Rebuilding the Rock” Benefit for Sunday, Dec. 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. at McFadden’s, 210 Merrick Rd. in Rockville Centre.

“East Rockaway has been hit very hard by Hurricane Sandy, and we’ve put a committee together to see what we can do about raising some money to help our great town bounce back,” said Dana Kallman, a 1994 ERHS graduate and an East Rockaway resident.

Tickets are $40 per person. Proceeds from the event will go to the East Rockaway Education Foundation. “We will also be holding auctions, raffles and other contests geared toward generating as much money as possible towards the foundation,” said Kallman. “A staff of local East Rockaway bartenders have been kind enough to donate their time as well as donating 100 percent of their tips to our cause.” The bartenders are Kara Fiorito, Mike Kienke, Erik Ventuleth, Cara Di Cicco, Anthony Derasmo, Scottie Blaze, Pat Lilly, Christina Hoerning, Danielle Omar, George Arniotis, Danielle Nielsen, John Fitzsimmons and Chris Breslin.

“In addition to raising a significant amount of money, this event will be an absolute blast,” said Kallman. “We will celebrate the solidarity of our great village, and while Hurricane Sandy was, and continues to be, a nightmare for most of us, this will bring many people together who have been out of touch for far too long.”
