In memory of Lynbrook’s Brian Ciampi

Local ‘legend’ remembered through foundation’s works; golf outing planned

Feb. 22 will be the second anniversary of the passing of Lynbrook “legend” Brian Ciampi.

Ciampi, who was born and raised in Lynbrook, graduated from Lynbrook High in 1991, where he was a star athlete, at school, as well as a fixture in the community. He also attended Farmingdale State College.

In 2011, Ciampi was diagnosed with stage IV colon cancer, and ultimately lost his long and brave battle with the disease two years ago — but, according to scores of friends and family members, he is certainly not forgotten, and will live on through the works of his friends and family.

“Brian was known as a truly fun spirit with endless energy,” said his brother, Mike Ciampi. “He was always willing to lend a hand to those in need, and was loved and respected by all those knew him.”

Not wanting to let his legacy be forgotten, his friends and family have created a foundation “The Friends of Brian Ciampi,” to honor his memory.

“The mission of FOBC is to carry on the life and legacy of Brian,” said Mike Ciampi. “This foundation will provide assistance to families in need with the funds for proper nutritional, housing, educational, and medical needs. Brain was a man who stood for loyalty, strength and integrity.  It is our goal and responsibility to preserve what he represented though out the community.”

In a joint effort with Pearsall’s Station, a restaurant on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook, FOBC host an annual golf outing at Seawane Golf Club in September. Last year, the outing raised more than $12,000 dollars. All of the funds donated went in equal portions to the New York Police and Fire Widows’ Fund, Autism Speaks, and to a Lynbrook High School scholarship that was set up in Brain’s name, to go to two student athletes annually. Brian's niece, Anabelle, has also helped keep his memory and spirit alive. Every August, she competes in the Deep Pond Triathlon to raise money and awareness for colon cancer in her uncle's honor.  The "Tri-ing for Uncle Brian" event has raised more than $6,000, which also gets contributed to the scholarship fund.

“Anabelle's big heart and her willingness to help others are wonderful traits she shares with uncle Brian.

“The passing of my younger brother was a huge loss not only to the family but to the community as well,” said Mike Ciampi. “Though the FOBC, we can keep my brothers memory alive and help those who need it most. It’s a true win-win for all.”

The golf outing will take place at Seawane again this year in September. For more information on the outing, call (516) 996-3182 or (516) 236-7599. For donations, checks can be made payable to “From our Family to Yours” (a registered 501c3) c/o FOBC and mailed to 486 Sunrise Hwy, Suite 200, Rockville Centre, NY 11570.
