According to new research commissioned by Atria, this survey of 1,021 Americans found that 84 percent of respondents believe that the Greatest Generation expresses more gratitude than millennials. And life gets better as we age, as 71 percent of Americans feel they will be happier in 10 years than they are today.

The survey also found that women express gratitude multiple times a day than men (81 percent of women versus 74 percent of men). Building on the gratitude theme, Atria communities around the country are finding unique ways to perform acts gratitude.

With this theme in mind, the residents at Atria Lynbrook handed out police officer survival kits in celebration of World Gratitude Day.

The local effort is part of the ‘Go Grateful’ campaign during which residents from Atria Senior Living communities across the United States and Canada have gone on similar outings. Atria staff members helped the seniors mobilize by providing transportation and accompanying the groups as they demonstrate their appreciation for others.

“Atria residents have lived long, interesting lives,” said Ronda Watson, senior vice president, culinary and engage Life for Atria. “Given the negative temperament in the world right now, they, of all people, understand that random acts of gratitude can have a truly positive impact on people.”

Members of the public were also encouraged to participate. Atria has created a website, GoGratefulNow.com, where shareable images for social media posts were downloaded and expressions of gratitude can be uploaded. Participants were asked to use #goGrateful in social media posts in an effort to reach 25,000 expressions of gratitude by the end of World Gratitude Day.
