Lynbrook Chamber hosts awards, installation dinner

Linda Stephenson named as new president of Chamber of Commerce

The Lynbrook Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards ceremony and installation of officers and directors dinner last Thursday, honoring a business owner, an educator and two police officers – brothers in blue and in real life.

Linda Stephenson was installed as the Chamber’s newest president. Mayor Bill Hendrick swore her in.

The awardees

Lieutenant Daniel Dillon, born and raised in Lynbrook, spent five years with the New York City Police Department before joining the Lynbrook Police Department in 1989. He’s been the recipient of the department’s Cop of the Year award three times, and has also received the Police Chief’s Award and the Town of Hempstead Distinguished Service Award.

Det. Sgt. James Dillon also served in the NYPD since 1984, and joined the Lynbrook Police Department in 1986. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the TOH award, and the Nassau County Shields Cop of the Year, as well as the LPD distinction. He is very active in the village, and has coached Little League.

Chris Anderson, a principal owner of Crown Ford, supports many local causes, events, organization and churches. His company has donated a 12-passenger can to Hope for Warriors, as well as a wheelchair-equipped van to the Nassau County Veterans Services Administration.

Mary Kirby has taught middle school and high school English since 1997.She has collaborated with colleagues to create a research-writing curriculum, and is a member of the Senior Year Networking Committee. She has coached Varsity Cheerleading, as well as being a Junior Varsity Girls’ Soccer coach. She has been named Teacher of the Year and received a Founder’s Day award.

Chief Michael Anderson joined Rescue Hook Ladder and Bucket Company in 1993. He rose through the ranks to become captain in 2006. He was instrumental in helping to rebuild Truck Company after a fire in 2005. He was presented with the Silver Medal of Valor for his heroic lifesaving efforts during a Doxey Place fire in 2002.
