More snow for Long Island's South Shore

Most schools closed; roads dangerous, slippery

Snow and plummeting temperatures are expected as 4 to 7 inches are forecast to fall in our area, and a winter storm warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy snow is expected along with a wintry mix. Hazardous travel conditions are anticipated as visibility could be only a quarter mile during the morning into early afternoon. Road icing could occur as temperatures will drop from the mid-30s this morning to the lower 20s by the afternoon.

School closings

All of our coverage area schools are closed, with the exception of:
Children's Nest - Merrick: Early release at noon
Children's Nest - Wantagh: Early release at noon
Winners' Academy, West Hempstead: Early release at 3 pm.

Transportation

As of 8:30 a.m. there were delays on the Babylon and Montauk branches of the Long Island Rail Road.
