NY Rising clears up deadline confusion

Misperceptions have been circulating around NY Rising’s March 1 deadline for homeowners involved in the house-elevation program to submit work change orders, according to Anne Fenton, of the Government Office of Storm Recovery.

Friday morning, Fenton said that there are 150 out of 2,100 applicants who were potentially affected by the deadline. They are those who did not seek additional funding to modify their scope of work plans. “Contrary to letters or press announcements, the March 1 deadline did not change,” said Fenton. The 150 applicants may no longer request additional funding, but they remain entitled to their initial award amount and will not be terminated from the program.

After a press conference on Feb. 23 it was widely reported that the remaining 1,950 participants in the program would loose their chance to file new change orders and request additional funding. However, the March 1 deadline had no affect on the remaining participants. In other words, if they encounter cost overruns or unanticipated challenges when lifting their home, they may file a Scope of Work Change Request 6100 Form and still have the opportunity to receive additional funds.

“We try to be as flexible as possible,” said Fenton. “If [participants] are having issues all they have to do is pick up the phone and call us and we’re willing to work with their circumstances.”
