The Story Pirates return to Centre Avenue School

Posted

Students at Centre Avenue Elementary School watched their stories come to life, with a little help from The Story Pirates! Centre Avenue PTA sponsored two programs by the nationally acclaimed theatre company, “The Idea Storm” and “New Story Show” inspiring young authors to become playwrights.

“The Idea Storm” was an improv show, where performers took suggestions from the students to create stories on the spot, while helping students identify key elements of composition and narrative structure. The assembly left students with the challenge of writing new stories for The Story Pirates.

After receivng 119 stories from students at Centre Avenue, the theatre company returned last week with the “New Story Show.” This show featured fully produced sketches and musical numbers based on the stories written by the young authors.

“The New Story Show” featured stories by students: James Lewald, second grade, Gabriella Folk and Shannon Monaco, fourth grade, Lauren Kelly, fifth grade, and Michael Mistretta, sixth grade.

Ms. Ruiz, Superintendent, said, “The Story Pirates provided an exciting and authentic opportunity to bring our students words to life. What a fabulous experience the Story Pirates were for our students!”
