Trying to put nuclear genie back in the bottle
(Page 3 of 3)
But the passing of time alters the picture. The first and only use of atomic weapons changed history. Many countries now have nuclear weapons, and some of them, like North Korea, are unstable and threatening. Iran will soon have a bomb. Israel has had them for years. When will the next African dictator start shopping for nuclear weapons? We started it all in 1945 and ever since, we’ve been trying to control the development, sale and spread of nuclear weapons. Think of the money and people power expended every day to keep these real weapons of mass destruction out of the hands of fanatics.

The legacy of Aug. 9, 1945, is awesome and sobering.
