UPDATE: Police make an arrest in East Rockaway bank robbery

Capital One on Main Street hit for third time this year

Police have arrested an East Rockaway man in connection with a bank robbery occurred on Monday in East Rockaway.

According to Robbery Squad detectives, at 9:45 a.m., Robert Land, 40, of 2nd Avenue, entered the Capital One Bank at 115 Main Street and approached a teller, making a verbal demand and presenting a note, demanding money.

The teller complied with an undetermined amount of money.

Land then fled on foot southbound on Bailey Avenue towards Davis Avenue, police said.

There were six employees and three customers present at the time of the robbery. There were no reported injuries. A very clear surveillance photo was taken of the suspect’s face.

Land was located and placed under arrest at 8:27 p.m. at his residence without incident. At the time of his arrest, he was found in possession of heroin. He is charged with robbery in the 3rd degree, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree. He was arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

This is one of numerous robberies at this location since the beginning of the year. Police said that they have not made any connection with this robbery and the other two, and an investigation is still ongoing in those cases.
