A homeless man was arrested following an investigation by the Nassau and Suffolk county police departments in connection to a string of knifepoint robberies that have occurred throughout Long Island since February.

Shane Cashmore, 30, was arrested on May 1 after police caught him and two others attempting to rob a Carvel in Huntington Station. Paul Drab, 26, and Juliana Pantaleone, 31, both of Levittown, were also arrested. Drab will be charged with nine counts of robbery in the first degree and Pantaleone will be charged with four counts of robbery in the first degree.

According to Newsday, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy Sini expressed confidence that Cashmore was connected to 18 similar robberies across Long Island, including one that took place at TCBY on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook on April 15. “We have no doubt Mr. Cashmore was responsible for these 18 robberies,” Sini told Newsday.

The three parties were charged with first-degree robbery, according to Newsday, and Cashmore said heroin addiction drove him to commit the crimes.

Police were able to track Cashmore down by attaching a court-ordered GPS device on a sports car they believed to be the getaway car. They were able to find the car by examining license-plate readers and watching footage from surveillance cameras.
