Fourth- and fifth-graders celebrate Pi Day

Posted

Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway (HAFTR) fourth and fifth grade students learned about Pi — to the relationship between a circle’s circumference and it’s diameter — on National Pi Day, March 14 or 3.14.

They took part in a round-robin program, where they explored the relationship between a circle’s circumference and diameter, learned to use protractors to measure the angles of the slices of pie and experimented with volume. Students solved problems and worked collaboratively.

Fifth-graders tested their division skills as they tried to turn fractions into decimals. They couldn’t imagine continuing to work on a single math problem until they got to so many digits. Of course, their math problems in class have shorter solutions.
