From tests to trips, students rejoice in end-of-year activities

Posted

Lawrence High School students have spent the preceding weeks dedicating countless hours to preparation for Advanced Placement exams. Much to their delight, two weeks of testing finally ended on May 17.

Now students and faculty have more freedom to enjoy moments of repose and pleasure as they are greeted with a series of exciting end of year events!

The excitement begins with the Lawrence High music department three-day trip to Hershey Park in Pennsylvania, that began on May 17. Students and faculty traveled to the park where rides, fun, and delectable super-sized sweet treats were thoroughly enjoyed. The LHS band, orchestra, chorus, and dance members also attended seminars and rehearsals for their respective groups and a college visit as well.

The high school art exhibition gets under way on May 20. The talented students of the Lawrence art program have worked tirelessly throughout the year to morph sculptures, take photographs and create original paintings, drawings, and more. For one week only, the public will have the pleasure of viewing these magnificent pieces, and celebrating the richly talented members of our Lawrence family.

The joyous occasions continue later in the week with the junior and senior class trips, both of which are scheduled for May 23. Juniors will spend the day enjoying rides, food, and fun at Dorney Park, which is the perfect way to celebrate the end of AP exams and standardized testing.

Seniors will pass the day enjoying games, roller coasters and more at Six Flags. For the seniors especially, the moments shared on this trip will be treasured greatly as their moments together continue to dwindle.

The following week holds a coveted event that is very special to members of the Lawrence community, the district Dance Show which takes place on May 30. This event never fails to draw a large audience and is a spectacular representation of dance as a true art form. The show’s theme this year is “All Around The World.” This is a concept that is particularly special to Lawrence schools as we have the immense pleasure of being home to a widely diverse cultural population, making this year’s show a highly anticipated event.

These events are merely a few, among countless other special moments that will be shared by our Lawrence family. A few of these other events include the Spring Concert, with the LHS performing groups and their respective directors, and the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony that will welcome the new group of excelling juniors who will lead special school events throughout the following school year.

The end of year senior events encompass, the Senior Award Ceremonies, Senior Banquet, prom and ultimately graduation. This is a beautiful time in the lives of our Lawrence High School seniors, who are celebrating a monumental milestone, and who, no matter how far they travel, will always carry a little piece of their beloved Lawrence with them.
