Lynbrook police arrest Rockville Centre man for DWI, gun possession

The Lynbrook Police Department arrested a Rockville Centre man on Thursday for driving while intoxicated and possessing two loaded pistols.

According to a release by the Nassau County Police Department, William Havel, 61, was arrested after police discovered him asleep in his car and blocking an intersection.

Police said that LPD officers found Havel’s car stopped at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Peninsula Boulevard in Lynbrook. After they conducted a traffic stop, they found Havel asleep at the wheel. He had blood shot eyes and slurred speech, police said, and the officers also uncovered a loaded .22 magnum pistol and a loaded .38 pistol inside the vehicle.

Havel was charged with two counts of second-degree possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon, driving while intoxicated and four counts of second-degree criminal contempt.

Havel was due to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
