School pride soars at Lynbrook Owls' Homecoming

The football field at Marion Street was a sea of green and gold as hundreds of supporters came out to support Lynbrook High School’s varsity football team during its Homecoming game on Sept. 21.

The festivities began with a parade from the high school to the Marion Street field, where spectators of all ages looked on, most wearing green and gold and all showing signs of support. Caroline Ridings and William Wren served as the Homecoming queen and king, respectively, marching down Union Avenue.

Each class had a chance to ride in a car or a fire truck decorated with green and gold streamers and balloons, or march down the street while holding banners and waving to the dozens of onlookers. The parade also featured the school’s marching band and color guard, as well as the Owls cheerleaders and football players.

Though Lynbrook ultimately lost to Floral Park, 25-0, the day showcased school pride and unity.

“Homecoming 2019 was a wonderful day — complete with perfect weather and Lynbrook pride,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Melissa Burak said. “The support of our community is always appreciated and they were out in full green and gold this past Saturday. Owls forever!”
