South Shore Camps recently wrapped up another summer filled with fun activities for students to enjoy in the sun in East Rockaway.

“This was the 30th edition of our basketball camp,” Camp Director Joe Lores said. “Seventy area kids benefitted from the instruction and play.”

Lores founded the camp three decades ago to get children into sports and to provide them with activities to participate in while they are on summer vacation from school.

The basketball camp ran from July 23 through Aug. 3. Evan Bosques earned the Best All-Around Camper award for her efforts on and off the court at camp.

In addition to the basketball camp, South Shore Camps also offered a playgroup and a softball camp. In its 29th season, the playgroup ran from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday from July 2 to 27. Participants were involved in many activities, including a talent show, arts and crafts and sports.

This summer marked the eighth year of the softball camp, which was held at Centre Avenue School. Participants learned the fundamentals of the game, including hitting, fielding and sliding properly, and played games against one another.
