A day to savor: Treat Mom to some special memories
Whether she’s still hard at work raising children or her kids have grown up and now have children of their own, Mom always deserves our best on Mother’s Day. And while traditional gifts like flowers or her favorite scent are always welcome, there are many ways to go the extra mile for Mom.
Breakfast in Bed: Every mom deserves some time to relax. Why not begin Mother’s Day by pampering her with breakfast in bed? Watch it Grow: Spend Mother’s Day afternoon making memories with Mom and see your love grow all spring and summer. Pick out a new planter with gardening tools, soil and seeds. Work together to plant something beautiful. As the plants grow, she will be reminded of you!
Concert Tickets: Many adults recall the days of their youth when Mom would relax while listening to some of her favorite music on a lazy summer afternoon. Why not take a stroll down Memory Lane and take Mom to see one of her favorite acts in concert? Even if you have outgrown Mom’s musical tastes, she will still appreciate the chance to spend an evening out on the town with her kids and some good music.
Spa Treatment: A day of pampering at one of the many local spas in our neighborhoods is sure to please. Many offer packages, especially around Mother’s Day, that make a full-on spa treatment a more affordable gift.
Brunch or Dinner: Get mom away from the kitchen and take out her for a delectable meal. Many of the restaurants in the area are offering Mother’s Day menus and specials. Choices abound, with something to satisfy every palate. The recently reopened (and sorely missed) Lynbrook Diner is featuring a special menu with many tempting choices that include leg of lamb, fresh ham, Long Island duck, prime rib, shell steak, chicken, seafood, and much more.
Rockville Centre’s exciting dining scene features two newcomers, Parlay Gastropub and Tony Colombo’s Italian Bistro. Parlay Gastropub has arrived with a creative, food menu and an extensive craft cocktail and beer selection. Weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays offers an enticing menu of sweet and savory items. Dinner includes a wide range of starters and shareable plates, mussel pots, burgers, steaks, chicken, seafood and pastas. Nearby, Tony Colombo’s innovative kitchen, led by executive chef Tony Colombo, takes classic Italian cuisine to a new level, with eclectic twists on timeless favorites.
Also in Rockville Centre, Tony Colombo’s sister restaurant Chadwicks offers an extensive menu for lunch and dinner, under the watchful eye of award-winning chef Art Gustafson. His menu blends New American cuisine with global ingredients creatively interpreted with hints of Neuvo Latino, Pacific Rim, Italian/Mediterranean, classic chop house and, of course, French Bistro. It’s all there from a Spanish lobster quesadilla to Asian-inspired tuna tartare; Belgian influenced moule et frites to tango tempura shrimp with sweet chili dip and Mamma’s Chicken-Meatball Sliders.
In Baldwin, Coral House, the re-energized landmark catering facility on Milburn Lake, offers a brunch and dinner buffet with plenty of items sure to please kids as well as as adults, along with outdoor entertainment from noon-4 p.m.
Also Runyon’s in Seaford serves up all-American comfort foods innovatively prepared by chef Tim Mahoney. Whether Mom chooses brunch or dinner, it’s sure to be an enjoyable meal. The varied menu includes steaks, seafood and pasta dishes, along the chef’s creative daily specials.
And, of course, reservations are must for Mother’s Day dining.
