Arrest made in Elmont robbery

Queens resident, James Caffrey, 22, was arrested for the robbery that occurred outside of the Key Food on the border of Floral Park and Elmont at 9:30 p.m. on Tursdsy night, police said.

He is charged with robbery and was arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.

A man was robbed outside of the Key Food at 151 Covert Avenue, near the border of Floral Park and Elmont on Tuesday night, police said.

According to detectives, the victim, 18, left work at the supermarket at 9:30 p.m. and walked west on Tulip Avenue, near Landau Avenue. He was then approached by a man who demanded money and, according to police, shouted at the Key Food employee, “I’ll shoot you, I just got out of jail.”

The victim complied and gave the suspect and undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect then fled on foot south on Landau Avenue. No injuries were reported.
