Disability Awareness Day at Dutch Broadway

Posted

Children from Dutch Broadway School in Elmont learned about people with disabilities when students from the Henry Viscardi School in Albertson recently visited their school.

The assembly featured four Viscardi student ambassadors, who spoke to the children about their disabilities, what it means to be disabled and their hopes and dreams for the future.

Physical education teachers Deb Bennett and Glenn Saenz, along with Bennett’s childhood friend, Viscardi Center coordinator Joe Slaninka, coordinated the event.

“Just because they are in a wheel chair or maybe speak or look differently, at the end of the day we’re all the same,” Bennett said. “They have the same goals and interests as we do.”
