A Mazda MPV was being driven eastbound in the westbound lanes of the Southern State Parkway near Exit 17 Hempstead Avenue on Aug. 10 at approximately 1:45 a.m. The operator of the vehicle, Ronald Holmes, 48, of Elmont, slammed into five cars, sending one vehicle’s operator to Nassau University Medical Center, while three others were treated at the scene, police said.

Holmes, a police officer with the NYPD for 20 years and assigned to the 76th Precinct in Brooklyn, has been suspended indefinitely. He faces a driving while intoxicated charge, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving and a variety of other traffic violations.

Following his arrest, Holmes was held for arraignment in Nassau County First District Court, in Hempstead.
