Elmont man arrested for burglary

Nassau Police report the arrest of an Elmont man for burglary in an Elmont home on Wednesday morning.

According to detectives, a 40-year-old female returned to her Morgan Avenue home during which time she noticed in her first floor bedroom that the contents of a locked box containing assorted jewelry and collectible coins were strewn about the room. The woman then noticedan unknown man in her home without permission to be there. After questioning him as to why he was in her house, she left quickly with her dog and called the police for help from a neighbor's home.

Responding Fifth Precinct officers, after hearing a radio broadcast, were able to locate the man walking near Custer Street and Caroline Avenue and place the defendant, Devon J. Pruden, 22, of Diellen Lane, into custody without incident. Proceeds were recovered, along with a large knife. There were no injuries reported.

Pruden was charged with second degree burglary, and possession of a burglar's tools. He was arraigned on Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
