Elmont man arrested for fraudulent checks

Police have arrested an Elmont man who was in possession of fraudulent checks and stolen credit cards on Jan. 21in Elmont.

According to detectives, while on patrol, 5th Precinct officers observed Dale E. Braithwaite, 36, sitting in a parked car on Dutch Broadway with his interior lights on. The police noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car and after further investigation, they found the defendant smoking and recovered a substance believed to be marijuana. After placing Braithwaite in custody, further investigation revealed that he was in possession of eight fraudulent Chase Bank checks and four credit cards not belonging to him, police said.

Braithwaite is charged with eight counts of possession of a forged instrument, unlawful possession of marijuana, and various vehicle and traffic law violations. He was arraigned on Jan. 26 at First District Court in Hempstead.
