Ten students from Elmont Memorial High School Model United Nations program traveled to the Georgetown Model United Nations Conference in Washington, D.C., held from Feb. 11 to 15. The conference, hosted by Georgetown University, is the largest Model U.N. conference in North America. Elite students from all over the world participated. Students from China, Georgia, Puerto Rico, Bahrain and Denmark trained for many weeks for this prestigious gathering. The 10 Elmont Memorial students also trained for weeks. Many of the Elmont students on the team are new to Model United Nations. However, they continued the winning legacy that began in 1978 by earning eight individual awards.

Isaiah Genao, David Delva, Leanna Faulk and Venette Simon received Honorable Mention awards. Harold Ekeh, Akan Brown, Ashley Simon and Christian Pierre-Louis received Outstanding Delegate Awards. Justin Hendriks and Joshua Phillip were also hardworking members of the team; they represented the Russian Business Network in the U.N. Special Summit on Cyber security. The success of this team is attributed to Head Delegates Isaiah Genao, David Delva, Harold Ekeh and the faculty advisors Nkenge Gilliam and Melvin Kohn.
