“Everyone Rides NICE” Transportation Assistance Program Kickoff

A new program providing free bus fares for Nassau County residents in need was held on Feb. 8 at noon at the NICE bus offices at 700 Commercial Ave, Garden City (southwest corner of Commercial Ave and Quentin Roosevelt Boulevard).

United Way of Long Island and NICE bus kicked off "Everyone Rides NICE," a non-profit foundation providing emergency transportation assistance to Nassau residents with limited resources. 

Initial funding of $1.25 million has been provided by Transdev, which operates NICE under contract to Nassau County.

Free Metrocards for use on NICE to be distributed by an initial group of six Nassau social services agencies to eligible clients. Agencies include:

Hispanic Counseling Center (Hempstead)

The Inn-Interfaith Nutrition Network (multiple locations)

The Long Island Council of Churches (Hempstead)

Island Harvest Food Bank (multiple locations)

Choices for All (Roosevelt/Freeport)
