Posted

The 26th annual Merrick Fall Festival will hold a special Sept. 11 commemoration this year, as the fair is set to run from Sept. 9 to 11.

The festival, sponsored by the Merrick Chamber of Commerce, will take place on Merrick Avenue, from the Long Island Rail Road station on Sunrise Highway to Loines Avenue. Along with carnival rides, games and food, the festival will honor Sept. 11 in a special way.

“We encourage the entire community and all fair-goers to take time out of their day to remember this solemn event,” Merrick Chamber Vice President Erin Donohue said. “The Merrick Fire Department will unveil a piece of steel not yet on display at the monument in honor of the 15th anniversary.”

The unveiling ceremony is set to begin at noon on Sept. 11 at the Merrick Fire Department’s 9/11 Memorial on Merrick Avenue and Sunrise Highway.

The festival will be open for rides on Friday, Sept. 9, from 6 to 11 p.m., and on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with rides staying open until 11 p.m. On Sunday, Sept. 11, the fest will open at 11 a.m., followed by the 9/11 memorial at noon, and wind down around 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.merrickchamber.org.
