New York Philharmonic visits Long Island on Friday

Conductors Alan Gilbert and Joshua Weilerstein lead distinguished orchestra

Those vibrant sounds of the New York Philharmonic return to the area when the orchestra visits Tilles Center, with violin soloist Lisa Batiashvili. Music Director Alan Gilbert conducts the NYP with Joshua Weilerstein, assistant conductor. The program includes Mussorgsky’s Prelude to Khovanshchina, Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1, and Tchaikovsky’s stirring Symphony No. 6, Pathétique. Weilerstein will lead a pre-performance discussion, at 6:45 p.m.

Hurricane Sandy Benefit

Concert in the Park: Nassau Helping Nassau
It’ll be a day of fun, sun and blockbuster music when the region’s premier bands come together in Eisenhower Park for a special concert benefiting Hurricane Sandy victims. The concert, being produced by Bobby G – a Wantagh resident and 9/11 first responder –brings together many local musicians to help raise money for the many area residents still struggling to recover from Sandy. Multi-instrumentalist Michael DelGuidice and his acclaimed Billy Joel cover band, Big Shot, open the show. The lineup also features Uppercut, the Ultimate Horn Powered Band; Five Stone; That 70s Band; Rapid Fire; Strawberry Fields, the legendary Beatles cover band; The Slim Kings, featuring longtime Billy Joel drummer Liberty DeVitto; and Killer Joe and the Lido Soul Revue.
