The 15th annual Franklin Square Spring festival took place this past Sunday. People of all ages strolled along Franklin Avenue to check out vendors, get a delicious sausage and peppers hero, stop at the Mister Softee truck for some ice cream and listen to live music.

Many people brought their classic cars to the festival, including Al Menelao of Franklin Square, who displayed his 1967 Plymouth GTX. Menelao said he comes to the festival every year to support the Franklin Square village.

Finding better ways to protect kids and grandkids as they grow can be challenging. A Child Safe Kit can be essential to law enforcement in the event of an emergency. Ricardo Zaldana from Child Safe Kit informed parents how important it is to sign up for the Child Safe Kit program, which is a convenient way to record comprehensive information about their missing child so authorities can help find them quickly.

During the festival many women stopped to look at and buy fine jewelry at Curtis J. Lewis’ jewelry booth.

Representatives from Kiwanis, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time also attended the festival.

Kiwanis sponsors the Franklin Square festival and donates to St. Catherine of Sienna RC Church every year.

Kiwanis President Thomas Scanlon, Chairman Michael Fusco and Co-chairman Tony Genova were among those who attended.

“Kiwanis is one of the most active clubs in the community as the club has sponsored Service Leadership Programs since 1925,” Fusco said. “These programs inspire children, young adults and adults with disabilities to serve their communities and develop leadership skills they can use for the rest of their lives.”

Franklin Square will hold its annual Fall festival on September 18th.
